TUESDAY 9th OCTOBER
LAUNCH OF 2008 GOOD BEER GUIDE
Held at The White Hart Hotel, Whitchurch

THREE WHITCHURCH PUBS ARE LISTED
________________________________

The publication of the 35th edition of the Campaign for Real Ale's Good Beer Guide was excellent news for Whitchurch, with three distinctly different outlets for real ales listed.

The launch by CAMRA at the White Hart Hotel was in recognition of the hard work and commitment by licensees Andy and Julie Moss since brewers Arkells took over the pub three years ago.

Highlight of the evening was the attendance of George Arkell from the brewery and the Head brewer, Don Bracher.

CAMRA's Wessex Region Director and Whitchurch resident John Buckley who launched the Guide, said he believed Whitchurch to be one of the country's finest small towns for its choice of beers and pubs.
"Not only has it attained three Good Beer Guide entries, but it also boasts four other fine pubs all serving excellent ales".
"With the Whitchurch CAMRA Beer Festival at the end of November, it is a beer lover's paradise!" he added.

The White Hart Hotel, the Prince Regent and the Whitchurch Sports & Social Club are all listed in the 880-page best-selling pub guide, edited by award-winning drinks writer Roger Protz.

The highly respected Guide is compiled by CAMRA's own volunteer membership of over 87,000 individuals and includes the country's top 4,500 pubs, ranging from sophisticated city bars to tiny off-beat locals. It is complete with beer listings, opening hours, food information, family facilities, accommodation and location maps. The unique brewery section provides information on more than 600 breweries together will all the beers they produce.

THE WHITCHURCH PUBS INCLUDED IN 2008 ARE:

The WHITE HART HOTEL, owned by Arkells Brewery, is a large historic coaching inn that offers fine beers, superb hospitality, accommodation, and excelelnt service from the independent family brewer. A variety of rooms and seating areas present a choice of atmosphere for the discerning drinker, from the popular public bar to the more intimate restaurant areas.

The PRINCE REGENT is a small and unpretentious single-bar community pub serving three well-kept brews from smaller brewers, usually Stonehenge, Otter and Hop Back. Conversation and social 'banter' are the order of the day and the pub attracts a strong local following. Such traditional pubs are becoming harder to find and pub chains move in and remove the character from hostellries

The WHITCHURCH SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB, arguably the best community facility the small town of Whitchurch offers, but tucked away on the southern fringes. The beer changes between the regular well-kept London Pride and occasional 'guest beers' from smaller brewers, with Harviestoun from Scotland and Butcombe from Somerset being recent offerings. It is also the home of the annual Whitchurch Beer Festival, held November. The Club also hosts many fine sports facilities as well as holding a wide range of events from cabarets and discos to business meetings and wedding receptions.
