CAMRA's research shows that 84% of people believe a pub is as essential in a community as a shop or post office. Thousands of pubs are closing each year, ripping the hearts out of communities and leaving many places without any social facility. The Railway has suffered under-investment, when with the right operator it had the potential to become a thriving hub for the area. Instead the owner prefers a pile of rubble!

Punch Taverns have been advertising many pubs for sale having put little or no investment into many of them while taking more and more from the hard working tenants.
The Railway was one such community pub.

There is a very famous, and unfortunately these days an all too commonly used quotation:

When you have lost your inns, drown your empty selves,
for you will have lost the last of England."

Hilaire Belloc
