Cycle Training
Olympic gold medallist and World Champion Bradley Wiggins joins in a Hampshire Cycle Training session.

Cofidis professional, Bradley Wiggins took time off from his demanding preparation for the Tour de France to visit a school in Chandlers Ford.

Before arriving at the local primary school the World and Olympic champion accompanied a dozen riders along some of the winding and often narrow cycle routes that link local businesses, schools and houses. It made for an unusual sight, bemusing several dog walkers!

On arrival, a lively question and answer session was held in the school hall, where the 400 children learned that Bradley sometimes rides 700 miles a week and also used to be on the West Ham FC youth team. Bradley also stressed the importance of proper cycle training and the need for safety on the roads. Two lucky names were then drawn out of a hat, one of whom won a bike provided by B & Q.

Bradley then joined 20 children who had been specially chosen for a cycle training session with Hampshire Cycle Training. After bike checks the keen young riders carried out a series of cycle control exercises both on the playground and then in the school hall - when the heavens opened!

The visit was subsequently shown on Meridien TV.
